Reunion Photo's
Dear Vance family,
What a great reunion we had in Kissimmee! We missed all of you that were unable to come, and, during our prayer, I prayed that health will be improved and that you all will come next year. We spent Sunday and part of Monday going through our Ship's memorabilia. We were able to take all of the important history of the USS Vance, 487 and 387 to the Museum of Military History nearby. We were welcomed there, and had a great tour. Chris Robertson and staff are so enthusiastic and will make a nice display for us, I'm sure. Jerry and I are going there on Tuesday for a special event, and will check in periodically.
We had at one time, 13 attendees, among them, were Chris and Duane Downs for their second time. Big surprise, we had Bob Messler, as well as Joe MacAfee. Bob lives a few hours south of us, and Joe lives in Virginia and was in FL for business.
As you may have seen in the pictures, we had a super Airboat ride. We not only saw some Gaters, but, a Bald Eagle, and many other birds, hunting for food, and flying away with fish in their mouths. We also went to Capones, a dinner and show, and toured a Chocolate museum and cafe. On Tuesday, we had our "banquet" in a special Italian restaurant. Joe MacAfee was able to join us there, and attend the meeting back at the hotel. Joe Betters was the only one who got on Zoom, and unfortunately was cut off after 40 minutes, since I didn't put in more time.
At the meeting, we discussed the museum , and decided to donate there instead of the Stewart in Galveston. We voted on two places for next year, which I will start looking into after the holidays. Helen, Georgia, which is a Bavarian town in Northern, GA, and St. Louis, MO. Probably, the mid to end of September, 2023. One thing we discussed at length during our days together. Our group is unfortunately aging, and having more difficulty ambulating. So, whatever we do, we need to keep that in mind. We did spend more time together in our gathering room, and got to know each other better.
Once we come up with a time and place, I'll try to do a flyer, and make sure everyone gets it.
